Sustainability Policy

At The Silk Club, sustainability and reducing waste are at the core of everything we do. From the fibres we choose to the way we package and ship our products, we avoid plastic wherever possible and opt for renewable, recyclable or biodegradable materials at every step.

1. Sustainable Materials

Organic, GOTS‑Certified Silk

All of our silk is 100% organic and certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), ensuring that it is grown and processed without harmful chemicals or GMOs.

OEKO‑TEX® Certified, Non‑Toxic Dyes

We use only OEKO‑TEX® certified dyes, guaranteeing that all colours applied to our silk are non‑toxic, eco‑friendly, and safe for you and the environment.

Lower Energy & Processing Needs

Compared with cotton, silk requires significantly less water and energy to cultivate and process - making it one of the most sustainable natural fabrics available.

2. Plastic‑Free Packaging

We never use plastic in any of our product packaging.

Every component, from labels to seals, is carefully selected to be plastic‑free and fully recyclable or compostable.

3. Gift‑Ready, Biodegradable Presentation

Pillowcases & Eye Masks

Each arrives in a sturdy, biodegradable card gift box—perfect for gifting without adding to landfill.

Silk Scrunchies

Packaged in tear‑open, biodegradable glassine bags that break down naturally once composted.

4. Responsible Shipping

Recycled Card

All outer boxes are made from 100% recycled card stock.

Paper Tape

Seals and tapes are paper‑based and fully recyclable, ensuring even our shipping materials leave minimal footprint.

5. Is Silk Biodegradable?

Silk is a natural protein fibre that breaks down in soil and water without releasing harmful toxins - making it fully biodegradable and compostable under typical conditions.

Natural Protein Fibre

Derived from silkworm cocoons, silk contains proteins (fibroin) that microorganisms can readily digest.

Compostable

In home or industrial composting, untreated silk items can decompose within 6–12 months, returning valuable nutrients to the earth.

6. Care & Longevity

Our pillowcases are expertly crafted to be durable and resilient, retaining their shape and luxurious gloss for years. By following these simple care tips, you can maximise their lifespan and avoid replacing them too often:

Gentle Washing Settings

Use lukewarm water and a mild, pH‑neutral silk detergent on a delicates wash setting or handwash. Avoid washing powder, fabric softener, bleach and harsh chemicals.

Avoid Spin Settings & Tumble Drying

Avoid putting your pillowcase in a tumble dryer and the spin setting on washing machines.

Air‑Dry Flat or Line‑Dry

Lay flat on a towel or hang in a shaded area—avoid direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.

Proper Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat or moisture.

7. Continuous Improvement

We regularly review our suppliers and materials to push the boundaries of eco‑friendly luxury.

Feedback from our community informs ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and eliminate waste.

By choosing The Silk Club, you’re supporting a brand that puts people and the planet first - luxury you can feel good about.
